I think ideally there should have been just 8 teams, divided into 2 groups. A total of 12 matches played before the top 2 from each group played the semi-finals and then the finals. A grand total of 15 matches for the entire shebang. Much more efficient than the current total of something like four times that number of matches and an equal number of days.
Would be interesting to see if any of the matches get any half-decent TV ratings. I would bet on very low ratings and advertisers losing their shirts!

totally agree! current format is far too long and the first round matches are a sham. It is unlikely that any enthu will build up before the quarterfinals. The format you have suggested is ideal. In fact, they could have even got just one group of 8 teams with everyone playing each other once and the top 4 going into semis.
The ICC infact has almost exactly the same format for the Champions Trophy.. a tournament that has lost much of its sheen over the years.. I prefer a single group of 10 with everyone playing each other.. 45 games and then straight to the final !!..
